"Before the lake, very few people could enjoy seeing Rainbow Bridge. Now hundreds are able to see it because of boat travel. Many people such as myself would never be
able to partake of God's wonders because of being in a wheelchair. We have few enough places we can get to - PLEASE don't take Lake Powell from us. The beauty will never be what it was & to me it is gorgeous just
the way it is!"
"To even consider draining one of the most beautiful lakes in the world is by far the most ignorant thing I've ever heard of, if not an economical disaster of the first magnitude."
"Awe & amazement is for the Grand Canyon, Lake Powell is for sheer delight and enjoyment. Please, please, please leave it the way it is today for many people from all over the world to enjoy. Why even consider
taking that away. To me it would be a very foolish move."
"SAVE THE LAKE!" ( The writer pasted the following article segment to the card) "Recently I visited with Joan Nevills-Stavely beneath the
sacred span of Rainbow Bridge. Joan's father, Norman Nevills, was a river running pioneer on the San Juan and Colorado rivers. From the time she was a toddler Joan roamed Glen Canyon with her father. She was present on
the Glen Canyon expedition Wallace Stegner wrote about. "What are your feelings about the loss of the country you knew as a child"" I asked. Her eyes glistened in the canyon breeze. "Lake Powell and
Glen Canyon are two different places," she said. "I love the lake. it's a beautiful and refreshing place in the middle of a handsome, rugged land." Then she paused as shattered rays of midday sun broke
from behind the sandstone bridge. A moment later Joan went on, "Glen Canyon? it's another place-a place I knew and loved, but can never return to." None of us can return to Glen Canyon, any more than we can
return to our childhood."
"Please prevent any inclination of draining Lake Powell - There is too much to see by way of water , too many jobs will be lost as well as recreational opportunities."
"What is done is done. Leave everything as it is. We have gained more than we have lost."
