A Message from the President

Greetings from our new office located at the Page/Lake Powell Chamber of Commerce!

One of the major goals for the Friends organization this year was to establish an office and hire an executive director.  Well, we've done both!  Our new office inside the Chamber of Commerce store front provides excellent exposure to the public who are very interested in keeping Lake Powell the beautiful place that it is.

In June, we began the search for an executive director.  We were most fortunate in finding a highly qualified individual in Diane Hansen.  Diane has an excellent background in public relations, economic development and partnerships.

In the short time Diane has been with us, she has begun major work on partnerships with community organizations and set new membership goals.

Our most recent partnership is with the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, our co- sponsor for International Coastal Clean Up Day to be held Saturday, September 15th, 2001.

The event is scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to Noon with lunch provided for participants.  This event will involve collecting debris from our beaches and removing graffiti carvings from sandstone canyon walls.

We are also having fun – kayak and other races with prize give-aways for participants.

We are also in the process of updating our database.  If you would like your name added to our listserver file, please send us an e-mail with the word SUBSCRIBE in the subject heading line.

We are excited about the future growth of the organization and we appreciate your continued support as we move forward.

MEET OUR NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

“Our overall mission is to
promote the positive
aspects of Lake Powell
and Glen Canyon Dam
through education and
public awareness”

Diane Hansen,
Executive Director

With membership approaching 2,000, the Friends of Lake Powell has moved into a new phase with the hiring of former-City of Page Economic Development Director, Diane Hansen, to serve as the Friends of Lake Powell executive director.

Her work involves running our new administrative office, boosting membership, educating the public and gaining recognition for our organization.

The next time you are in the Page Downtown area, stop by the Chamber of Commerce and say Hi to Diane.
