Welcome to Lake Powell
The Hate-Lake-Powell-environmentalists are celebrating Western U.S. Drought conditions. A reasonably sane person would evaluate the current drought conditions and drawdown of Lake Powell and Lake Mead and exclaim "Thank God, we have two reservoirs to get us through these drought cycles". But the drain-it activists are happy (very happy) that the West is experiencing extreme drought conditions and they want the drought to continue.
Organizations like the Glen Canyon Institute celebrate and cheer each foot drop in lake level. They want this drought cycle to keep going and last for another 20-50 years. They want Lake Powell drained and they want people to pack up and move. In their eyes there are too many people living in the West anyway and they hope this drought will create economic difficulties that force us out.
In the meantime, their latest political strategy involves an effort to rename Lake Powell to 'Glen Canyon Reservoir'. Environmental groups have made an official name change request through the U.S. Board of Geographic Names. Their justification? Lake Powell is a "reservoir" not a "Lake" and there are two Lake Powells: A teeny-tiny, high altitude, mini-me' of a lake in Colorado and the world renowned Lake Powell near Page, Arizona.
The U.S. Board of Geographic Names and the Board is officially soliciting public comment on the name change proposal. Please send your comments to :

The Hate-Lake-activists want you to hate reservoirs. Lake Powell is an ICON and it represents the Ultimate Environmental Trophy. Extreme environmental groups are religiously committed to taking it away from you. Since there isn't political support for draining the lake, they now want to take it from you on paper. The worst thing we can do is sit quietly and let them work their strategic propaganda of half-truths and media misinformation.
It's a sad fact of the modern world but if you don't speak up for the things you love...someone else will rise up and try to take it away from you.
The Friends of Lake Powell are thankful for your continued political and financial support. If you're not yet a member perhaps its time you join our cause.

Two stripers over 45 lbs have recently been found floating on the surface after spending too much time in the warm surface waters (which lack sufficient oxygen for these huge fish).

Next time you have a fish on the
line...perhaps
it will go down as a new Lake Powell record?
