September 29, 1997Lynn L. Clark Dear Lynn, Thank you for your letter opposing the Sierra Club's
plan to drain Lake Powell. I am strongly opposed to this ridiculous proposal, and am pleased to let you know that the House Resources Committee held an oversight hearing on this matter on September 23, 1997. A copy of
my testimony is enclosed. My colleagues and I are all united in opposition to the idea, which was termed 'stupid' by the Chairman Hansen of the National Parks and Public Lands Subcommittee. Despite the strong
opposition, I agree that we cannot sit idly by and believe that this is the last of the issue. In fact, additional hearings may be held on this issue in the House and in the Senate - not to lend any credence to the
proposal, but to put it to rest once and for all. Let me assure you that I am working on this issue and will continue to oppose it. Best wishes. Sincerely, BOB STUMP Member of Congress |
